How Alabama OJT Reimbursement Actually Works for Employers

Alabama On-the-Job Training is a WIOA wage reimbursement paid through your regional Alabama Career Center. You hire an eligible new worker, sign an agreement before training, and the center reimburses up to 50% of the trainee's wages for up to 1,040 hours (about 26 weeks). The state page lists a 50% maximum for all employers, so do not expect the federal 75% option.

STRAIGHT ANSWERS

Alabama OJT questions.

How much of a new hire's wages will Alabama reimburse?

Up to 50%. Workforce Alabama says the percentage depends on employee count, and the state OJT page lists a 50% maximum for all employers.

Can I get the federal 75% rate?

Federal rules allow up to 75% when the Governor or local board documents the factors. Alabama's pages publish only 50%, so ask your career center.

SOURCE: ECFR.GOV
Do I have to prove my training costs?

No. The payment is treated as compensation for extra training costs and lower productivity, so you document hours and wages, not those costs.

How long can the contract run?

It must be limited to the time needed to become proficient, and Alabama caps it at 1,040 hours (about 26 weeks).
