Ohio Credential Reimbursement Programs for Employers

Ohio's credential reimbursement program for employers is TechCred, run by the Ohio Department of Development. It reimburses up to $1,000 per person, per credential, and up to $30,000 per application period, for short technology-focused credentials earned by current or prospective W-2 employees. The application window is October 1 to October 30, 2026. You pay the provider first and are reimbursed after the employee earns the credential.

WHAT YOU GET

Reimbursement of tuition, lab fees, manuals, textbooks and certification costs for short, technology-focused credentials, for current or prospective W-2 employees.

WHO RECEIVES THE MONEY

The employer, as a reimbursement after the employee earns the credential. The employer pays the training provider first.

WHO QUALIFIES
  • Ohio employer registered with the Secretary of State, with a physical, non-residential location in Ohio
  • Ohio-resident W-2 employees reported to Ohio Unemployment Insurance; employer withholds Ohio income tax
  • Public entities, including state agencies, local governments and public schools and colleges, are not eligible
  • Credential must be on the approved list, technology-focused, short-term and from an eligible training provider
  • One application per employer (per FEIN) per application period
Before you start: Yes. You apply during an application window and sign a grant agreement. Training or costs before the award are at your own risk.
HOW TO APPLY

  2. 2Apply online at development.ohio.gov/TechCred during the application window
  3. 3After award and a signed grant agreement, train employees and pay the provider
  4. 4Submit a reimbursement request with the certificate, itemized invoice and proof of payment

Deadlines and windows: The application window runs from 9:00 a.m. on October 1, 2026 to 3:00 p.m. on October 30, 2026. The state says to allow up to 90 days after closing for decisions. Training must be finished within 12 months of the award date.

What does TechCred pay for?

Can I train people I have not hired yet?

Yes. You may apply for current or prospective employees. They must be W-2 employees when you request reimbursement.
